There was a hint of deja vu on Saturday night as the Pistons controlled long stretches of play, battled back to tie the game in the third period and then won it in overtime to extend their winning streak to 12 games with a 3-2 win over the Dauphin Kings on Saturday night.

Steinbach wanted to get off to a better start of the game and for the most part, that was successful as they had a couple of chances early on but it was the Kings that scored first for a second consecutive game. It was a carbon copy of how Dauphin got on the board first on Friday night, a pass from behind the net to an unchecked forward at the top of the crease.

The Pistons kept pushing but were turned away every time by the strong play of Kings goalie Brandon Holtby. The crowd was getting a bit tense and restless, that was until Mark Taraschuk tied the game up with a wrister from the point. "Oh I was pumped." Taraschuk said post game. "(Carter) Chorney made a great pass to me and I saw that there was bodies in front, I buried my head, knew where everyone was and just let it rip. It was awesome to see the fans get wild like that." Steinbach heavily outs hot the Kings 14-4 in the opening period but the score was tied 1-1.

In the second, Steinbach again dominated for long periods of play with Dauphin struggling to get over the red line, let alone get into the offensive zone with puck control. While Holtby had his best period of the game, Pistons net minder Roman Bengert may of had his shakiest of the season. A few times pucks kind of skipped or seemingly caught the Nova Scotia native off guard and late in the third, the Kings scored a weird goal that handcuffed Bengert and gave them a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes of play. Again, the Pistons piled on the shots 20-5 and at times showed frustration at their lack of production.

In the third, Troy Williams showed off some incredible hockey smarts to tie the game. There was a hard check thrown near the Dauphin bench and several players from both sides rushed in to stand up for team mates. Play was not whistled down so Williams picked up the loose puck and broke in on a mini two on one. The Kings defender sprawled out denying the pass across so Williams, instead of panicking and making a poor shot, held the puck and went around the net, Williams continued to hold and hold... and hold some more before getting into the slot and putting home a perfect wrist shot to make it 2-2. It was one of the smartest hockey plays fans will see all season.

With the score tied it was time for Bengert to stand up and that's exactly what he did. He faced 7 shots in the period, the most the Kings could muster in any period on Saturday night and turned aside all 7, including a big time blocker save and a sparkling shoulder save. The horn sounded and for a second consecutive night, the Pistons and Kings treated the fans to 3 on 3 overtime.

As overtime was set to start, Tyler Anderson sat on the bench, waiting for his chance to get on the ice. The 19 year old had arguably his strongest game of the season but was snake bit on the score sheet. Two times earlier in the game, Anderson had the crowd on their feet ready to explode but the puck hit iron and stayed out. Anderson didn't hang his head, he knew he'd get a chance and he knew he wouldn't miss again. After some back and forth play in the extra frame, Steinbach's Jordan Bochinski took the puck wide along the boards and Anderson jumped up making it a 2 on 1. Bochinski waited just long enough to draw the Kings defender over and then slid a perfect pass to Anderson, who again hit the bar but this time, it was bar down for the overtime winner.  "I felt happy, that's the word I'm looking for." Anderson, who was all smiles said after the game. "It was about time it went in. I've been doing all the right things lately and just wasn't getting rewarded. That time, as soon as it was off my stick I knew it was in and it's nice to get the monkey off my back for sure."

The Pistons remain the only undefeated team in the MJHL and have 24 points to sit a top the standings. Head coach Paul Dyck knows there is more work to be done, but was more optimistic with what he saw Saturday night as opposed to Friday. "We were pleased with the team's effort, with the opportunities we were generating (and) I thought there goaltender was fantastic tonight and all weekend long, it's a game we thought we could close out earlier but it was what it was. We've challenged our guys, not every game is going to look the same way, we're going to have to find different games. I thought during both games there was an element of frustration that was setting in and again tonight, when you're generating opportunities and pucks aren't going into the net it's natural but I thought our guys stuck with it and got the job done."

The final shots on goal were 41-17 Steinbach. The power play went 0-4 but the penalty kill went 3-3. Bengert is the first goalie to get 10 wins this season in the MJHL. His numbers are eye popping with a Goals Against Average of 1.49 and a Save Percentage of .941. He has faced 255 shots and stopped 240 of them.

The Pistons again have a long week of practice before their next game on Friday night triggers a 3 games in 3 night stretch up north. Swan Valley on Friday and then OCN Saturday night and Sunday afternoon. All three games will be broadcast on Mix 96.
