Kody Fawcett of Onanole has won the 82nd annual Tamarack golf tournament.

The 2015 men's champion beat top seed Jarod Crane 6 & 5 in the final at the Clear Lake golf course.

"It was a surprise," explained Fawcett.  "Knowing the course was a big thing.  You have to know where to hit it because if you miss it in some spots you are essentially dead so being able to place the ball where it's easiest to get around the greens is pretty crucial and length is a big advantage especially on the par fives."

Fawcett started the championship slow shooting a 76 in his opening qualifying round. He bounced back with a 70 to claim the 10th qualifying spot in the round of 16.

"I kind of got lucky with the weather because Sunday morning and into the afternoon the wind picked up and it rained a little bit. If I shot 70 on Sunday in good weather I wouldn't have made it in."

Fawcett then eliminated Brandon's Dale Coulter, Colton Wilms, Jared Jacobson and top seed Jarod Crane to win the Championship flight.

"I got better as the days went on," stated Fawcett.  "As I kind of found my swing and got more comfortable with it, everything kind of came together. The last two rounds especially playing against Jared Jacobson and Jarod Crane is probably when I hit it my best too.  I made a lot of putts too so everything kind of came together when it mattered the most."

This year's winner talked about what it means to him to win a prestigious tournament like the Tamarack.

"It's huge," said Fawcett.  "There are a lot of very good players on that trophy and I've been playing this tournament a long time so it's nice to get my name on there with those other guys and kind of put yourself in the picture."

Meanwhile, Kaitlyn Troop of Brandon won the women`s final.
