The Steinbach Fly-In Golf Club won the annual Steiner Cup championship with Quarry Oaks over the weekend. Steinbach led 11 to five after Saturday's alternate shot and better ball competitions and then took 9.5 of a possible 16 points in the singles' matches on Sunday. Brian Guenther, head professional at the Fly-In, says the singles' matches were closer than the score indicates.

"Three of the first four matches were wins for Steinbach but I will say that, at the halfway point, Quarry was looking pretty good, or the matches were all very tight, and it can always go the other way. But the guys stepped up and we got a few key matches in there that were wins and ended up doing alright."

Guenther says the Fly-In team was highly motivated this year.

"After three losses in a row, we've come back and the boys played really well Sunday and we snuck out a win. I don't think we wanted to lose four in a row. That was a key there and the guys really stepped up."
