After playing in his final season of junior hockey for the Steinbach Pistons, Quintin Lisoway will be continuing his career with the University of Manitoba Bisons.

The 20 year old from Neepawa, Manitoba was all smiles when talking about what's next in his life. "Junior hockey has been quite the experience and something I won't forget. I'm excited to look forward to next season with the Bisons. Plus getting to go to school, I'm very excited about that."

The life of a junior hockey player can be difficult at times and Lisoway knows this to be true. Lisoway played for the WHL's Brandon Wheat Kings and the QMJHL's Acadie-Bathhurst Titans before returning to Steinbach to finish the season with the Pistons. Playing in the WHL and QMJHL did have it's advantages that Lisoway is putting to full use. "With my time in Brandon, I was able to accumulate 4 years of CIS schooling. I personally believe that if you can get an education through any sport you're doing pretty well for yourself. That was my goal with playing in the western hockey league, I was able to add some years to join a college or university in Canada."

Recruiting players is done differently with each program but Lisoway credits the Bisons as being a first class organization that made the decision much easier. "When I came here at the start of this year after being released by Brandon, they had me out and I toured the school, toured the campus, I got to see the dressing room and we just talked. They're running a top notch program there and I want to continue playing at a top level and the CIS offers that. I liked what I heard, liked what I saw and it made the decision easy." Lisoway also talked about how a positive relationship is important when playing at any level of hockey. "Wherever you go, you have to have that connection with your coach or assistant coach. The connection has to be there for you both to succeed."

As the game of hockey continues to grow, many players coming up are already thinking about education and Lisoway talked about how that was a main focus of his as well. "Education isn't cheap. When you can get an education, it means a great deal. Getting to go to school and getting to play high level hockey, you can't be it." Lisoway dominates the ice and has plans to dominate the classroom as well. "I'm going to take business. That's what I'm leaning towards. I mean, I've been out of school for a few years now so it'll take some time. But junior hockey got me a scholarship and nothing can beat that."

As Quintin Lisoway moves on in his hockey career, many people around Steinbach will not forget what he brought both on the ice and off.
