Make it two in a row for the Steinbach Pistons after a 4-1 win over the Waywayseecappo Wolverines on Friday night at the MTS Iceplex as part of the Showcase Weekend for the MJHL.

With every team from the Manitoba Junior Hockey League playing this weekend and all in the same building, the Pistons game started earlier then players may have been used to, a 6pm puck drop and early on it looked as is Steinbach thought the game started at 7pm, surrendering 12 shots and only being credited with one. "Yeah, I'd say we came out flat and not what we expected from our group, that's for sure" said head coach Paul Dyck, "but things started looking better in the second and third and we were able to get some positive momentum and carry the play for the most part."

In the middle frame it was all Steinbach for extended periods, working hard on the cycle and controlling the puck. Some good work from the line of Hayden Goderis, Denis Bosc and Brad Schoonbaert would get the Pistons on the board first with what would be the first of two on the night, the first time in the young season that Steinbach opened the scoring.

Dyck talked about the Brandon natives night. "Scooby (Schoonbaert) is a guy that can finish the plays off, that's his reputation and he certainly has been doing that since coming here. When the puck's on his stick, he makes good decisions. It was good for him to get the first two off his back."

Matthieu Gomercic and Jordan Boschinski also both had goals for Steinbach while Goderis (2), Bosc (2), Dan Taillefer, James Shearer, Connor Martin and Mackenzie Graham had assists.

Jermey Wik who was very solid in the first period made 25 saves for his first win in the MJHL and was all smiles after the game. "It feels good, feel really good" Wik said with a smile, "that’s a big one, for sure."

The Pistons went 0 for 5 on the power play (but appeared to score a power play goal, no one could confirm that it was in fact on the man advantage, so for now the stat will stand as 0 for 5) While having a great penalty kill going 4 for 4

The Pistons now take on the Swan Valley Stampeders on Saturday night to wrap up their Showcase Weekend. You can catch the game on AM1250 and SteinbachOnline.com
