While attending a call Friday afternoon, Ste. Anne Police Officers found an 18-year-old man from Winnipeg in distress from an apparent drug overdose.

Police Chief Marc Robichaud says the man was found in a car in town after he had been partying in Steinbach. "It appears as though he had been taking Methamphetamine and Fentanyl, and we called 911 when we found the young man."

Robichaud says there seems to be an increase in the use of the dangerous synthetic drug Fentanyl. "It's extremely potent and people are cutting it with other drugs. When you're taking drugs not prescribed to you, you have no idea what the contents are or the concentration, it's very dangerous."

Robichaud adds, when someone abuses Fentanyl outside a hospital, the difference between a therapeutic dose and a deadly dose is very small.

Robichaud notes, the man is okay and no other details are available on his condition.
