After competing for eight years with his team, a Ste. Anne Auxiliary Cadet is heading to the 2016 Culinary Olympics in Germany as a coach.

Cameron Huley has been an auxiliary Cadet with the Ste. Anne Police for almost a year, volunteering approximately 50 hours a month as his job as a chef allows.

Huley recently competed in two events with his team, first the Salon Culinaire Mondial which is an event held every six years in Basel, Switzerland. This event is one of the three most important international culinary team competitions. They also competed in the Culinary Cup in Luxembourg last November. Huley says it's a circuit of competitions leading up to the Olympics.

“The Olympics happen every four years in Germany, where chefs from all around the world come to compete. There's individual, regional and national teams competing, and the national team is where you want to be.”

Huley says teams need to present a cold table display and are given five hours to do a 120 person restaurant service with everything from the appetizer, main course and dessert, all being made from scratch.

“You're competing against 3 Michelin Star chefs, so you're competing against the best of the best. We practice every month, for one week I fly to Vancouver to practice our cold show and our hot run. We sell tickets to fundraise because we probably spend a million dollars for the year leading up to the Olympics.”

Huley has recently come out with his own line of Hick Sticks BBQ sauces, dips and dressings that can be found on his facebook page. Hick Sticks Dressing and Catering
