It's not about the oldest, the largest or the most beautiful tree. The Rivers West Amazing Tree Quest is held annually with the Manitoba Forestry Association to find the most unique trees in Manitoba along the Red River Corridor.

"This year's winner is a 292 year-old oak tree submitted by a man in St. Pierre," said Rivers West Executive Director Anne-Marie Thibert.

The age of the tree was discovered when the person submitting the picture to Rivers West took seven core samples to decide the beautiful oak's age. The Amazing Tree Quest has been held annually for over five years gaining more interest every year.

"Well the main thing is to encourage greater awareness and recognize the importance of Canada's forestry in our nation. The treescape is incredibly important to the Red River Corridor and the health of the river. It's about protecting our natural environment," said Thibert.

The owners of the top three photos submitted receive a gift card to a garden centre of their choice allowing them to bring more beauty to the Red River Corridor. Thibert said if anyone has any ideas on how the organization can improve or expand the competition, feel free to submit your feedback on the Rivers West or Amazing Tree Quest Face book page.
