Anna and Charity Meneer won the Canadian Chili Cook Off championship held at the Kleefeld Honey Festival on Saturday.

This is the second year that the Canadian championships have been held in Kleefeld. The top two teams advance to the World Chili Cook-Off later this year in Alabama and win cash prizes.

Anna Meneer says the two of them have formed team Afterburn for a number of years now.

"This is my daughter Charity and we have been doing this for three years, this will be the fourth year and we basically cook with love. I'm kind of shaking here and I am super excited right now, no words can describe how I feel."

Charity Meneer says they really just have fun together, "I love cooking with my mom. My mom is a big inspiration to me because she helps me learn more stuff about culinary and I like cooking."

Second place went to Rob and Jaylene Kewley of team Down Home Cooking. Rob Kewley says it was a long hot morning of cooking but it was well worth it. He says they are excited to go to Alabama and thinks they have a shot at the world title.

"Last year the world champ beat me by two-tenths of a point, so right now the scores are very close, we are only .5 away from each other so we have ourselves some work cut out, but I think we will do pretty good."

Kewley says the secret to their success is sweet followed by heat.
