Eden Foundation is holding its second annual East-Side Road Ride this Saturday.

Earl Reimer is Director of Development. He says it is an 80-kilometre long bike ride for mental health. Cyclists will start in La Broquerie, make their way down to Woodridge and then back to La Broquerie.

According to Reimer, Eden has been running a mountain bike ride for about fourteen years. Because not all cyclists enjoy mountain biking, Reimer says the decision was made to also offer a fundraiser for road bikes.

Saturday's event is meant to raise awareness about mental health and mental health issues. It is also intended to support programs already running in Steinbach. Money raised will help re-shingle Wilson Courts. It will also supply books, DVDs, CDs and education material for their wellness library at 21 Loewen Boulevard. And finally, it will refurbish their positive living program. This program helps people learn how to budget and do a number of daily tasks.

Last year was the first year for the ride and Reimer says about twenty participants came out. He says he would love to double that number this year.

Reimer notes cyclists will have flashing lights on them in order to be more easily identified by motorists. There will also be a pilot vehicle used Saturday. Reimer says participants will be highly visible.
