There were five objections submitted to council over a residential related farm request from a resident on Twin River Road in the RM of La Broquerie.

The application was a request to own chickens, goats, turkeys, guinea fowl and hogs seasonally, however, the objections included noise, loose animals on the road, smell, and livestock too close to the creek where children play downstream. The objections stated these concerns are already present because the resident currently has animals on their property. The objections add if the resident wants livestock on their property, they should move further into the country and not live in a residential area.

Reeve Lewis Weiss says, as council, they sided with the strong objections and denied the request.

"Up until now, in most areas, we haven't been allowing it when there has been neighbouring complaints so we just held to the line and kept it the same."

There was another resident on the same road in October 2013 who requested permission for a residential related farm to have cattle on their property. This request was also denied. Weiss notes he expects the by-law enforcement officer will be checking the property and making sure they're not housing livestock when not permitted.
