Around 75 children gathered in St. Pierre Wednesday morning to meet their local heroes.

(Photo credit: Josie Unrau)Rat River Recreation Commission Facilitator Josie Unrau says they invited the St. Pierre RCMP, firefighters and paramedics to come to a 'Meet Your Local Heroes' event where children had the opportunity to use the fire hose, turn the sirens on and explore the RCMP vehicle.

"I think they really enjoyed it. Everybody said that they had a lot of fun," notes Unrau. "The firefighters and the police both said - especially from the police perspective - I think it's good, just good, healthy, positive exposure for them and for kids to see that these are people who are in our communities that do good things for us and can help us when we need them."

Unrau says they are planning on holding a similar event again next year. She adds it was great to help promote the local heroes of the St. Pierre community and says, as a community, they are thankful for the services the RCMP, firefighters and paramedics provide.
