The Blumenort Fun and Fair Days kicked off with a movie in the park on Friday evening.

Organizer Karen Hopkins says they played the movie Minions. She notes the fair started Saturday morning with a free Pancake breakfast then moved across town for the parade. She adds because they can't close down Highway 311 for the parade it started at Janzen's Garage, went down First Street to Oakdale, then circled back to the start.

"As part of the parade we have a bike decorating contest for the kids, so at the parade they are judged on their creativity and their decorating, and let me tell you something these kids are so creative. As soon as the parade is over everyone has to go back to the park because we have to give these prizes to the kids and then things get going."

Hopkins says there are a large variety of things happening at the park all day this Saturday including bouncers for the kids, face painting, a pie eating contest, and a men's cake bake.

"We are going to have Zorb Balls, those are those great big plastic balls that the kids climb right on into, we have mini trains for the kids, and we are going to have a watermelon eating contest, a diaper derby, a toddler trot, we are going to have a milk chugging contest, we are going to have a Lego contest."

Hopkins says in the evening there will be live music from Five Acres, Cracked Eggshell, and headliner Cold Hard Cash, then the day will wrap up with Fireworks.

Organizer Leona Goertzen says she has been a part of the Blumenort Fun and Fair Days for 13 years.

"I have lived in Blumenort for 20 years and for the first five years that I lived there, there was none. A small group of us decided why don't we do something, bring it back on board and we did it. We were three people at the time organizing, and we are five now. It is awesome, we have a great team."

The last event of the Blumenort Fun and Fair days is the church service in the park on Sunday morning.
