It almost looks like the inside of a sauna in the Centennial Arena in Steinbach these days. Steinbach Parks and Recreation finished installing the ice this week and there's a lot of fog in the building. Department head Russ Dyck says the old barn is not really set up to accommodate ice during warm weather.

"It's always a bit of a challenge. It's an older building. It doesn't really have a dehumidification system so we can make ice but it does get pretty foggy in there when it's warm and humid outside. We have to wait for it to cool down a little bit in the fall before it clears up for good."

Dyck says the ice surface itself is fine as the ice plant has been upgraded over the years.

"The plant itself is not too bad in that regard. If we had ice all summer, it would make it a little more challenging than just building it now, going into winter. The building isn't really intended for full summer ice."

The arena will going into use this weekend for a ringette event. The Steinbach Pistons will then hold their power camp starting Monday.
