With only two weeks remaining before the start of the 2016 Power Smart Manitoba Summer Games, it was time to kick back and enjoy some music in the company of volunteers and members of the community at the Coyote Creek fundraiser Friday evening.

Co-Chair for the 2016 Power Smart Manitoba Summer Games Trish Enns, says the weather was perfect and the event was a lot of fun. "It was great to get a bunch of people together from the community and our volunteers, it was basically a launch party with only two weeks to go, and we raised a little money.”

Nearly $2,000.00 was raised Friday evening that Enns says will go into the general funding of the games for things like food services, she says feeding 1000 kids for a week is a big ticket.

Enns says they will be going into the community this week to launch the 'fan of the games' fundraising project, where several businesses in Steinbach will be selling tags for a toonie.

“For two dollars, people can purchase a fan of the games tag to write their name on and what sport they are a fan of, and the stores will put them up. They will then be posted in the food services area in the athlete villages so the athletes can get a sense of the community spirit behind them in a tangible way.”

There will also be a progressive 50-50 draw. “We will be going around selling 50-50 tickets, and then during the week of the games, we are doing the progressive 50-50 draw in two phases.”

The 2016 Power Smart Manitoba Summer Games will be held in Steinbach from August 7-13.
