Steinbach Fire was called to the Curling Rink located next to the T.G. Smith Centre in Steinbach shortly after 6 pm Thursday.

Assistant Deputy Fire Chief Mike Penner says the building had some smoke in it when they arrived on scene. "There was some cooking going on at the Curling Club and I guess some food spilled over onto the elements causing a little bit of smoke and in turn set off some fire alarms."

People in the building were evacuated, and Penner says they planned to do some light ventilation of the hallways before allowing anyone back into the building.
