The Eastman Speed Skating Club registration day on Saturday did not have the turnout they were hoping for.

That according to Club President Eric Beauchesne. He says this is the first year the Eastman Speed Skating Club has been based in Steinbach and they will continue to promote the sport.

“I am going to partner with our provincial association to strategize on what we can do and how we are going to do it, but one of the main ideas right now would for sure be to have a sort of open house and a general invitation for people to come and try speed skating.”

Beauchesne says they are also focusing on promoting the sport to people who are already involved in hockey or ringette as a complementary activity. He notes even though they already had their registration day, the club is still open to new members.

“The program is a progressive program. Speed skating is a nice sport because you do not have to start at the beginning of the year. You can come and try speed skating anytime and register any time, just start joining the club and keep practicing with the skaters. There is not cut off date to come and try speed skating and get involved.”
