Guests filled the Steinbach Cultural Arts Centre Hall Gallery on Wednesday evening for the opening of the Extravagant Possibilities exhibit.

The exhibit features the works of Kianna Giesbrecht and Amber Gambling, both debut artists.

Giesbrecht says all of her art is very personal and she was very nervous to display it in a public gallery. She says she has been doing art as far back as she can remember.

"I have been painting and colouring and making things since I was little, it is just something I have always done. You have got to find what moves you to passion, and it is not for fame or money. If you sell things great, if not you just want to amaze yourself. It brings you joy."

Giesbrecht says one of her favourite works is a piece that shows a book with a figure coming out of it. She notes this represents dyslexia which she has struggled with all her life. She adds it was amazing and a little overwhelming to have so many people come out to the gallery and support the exhibit.

Gambling, who is originally from B.C., says most of her works are acrylic and oil paintings, but she got her start sketching when she was very young. She notes her original inspiration was horses.

"I used to ride horses all the time, that was my passion. I would go to horse shows and when I wasn't riding I would be drawing, and then I started painting them. As I slowly started moving away from the horse world, I started focusing more on the landscapes and occasionally on the abstract when the mood hit."

Gambling says each of her paintings is a small piece of her soul, and it is terrifying to have them up for all the public to see. She notes the oldest piece on display is from seven or eight years ago.

"One of my pieces I actually had to ship in from BC, and it is one of the first times I had actually painted. If you were to scrape away the top coat of paint, you would find like four paintings underneath where I just put black over top and then redid and then black and then redid until the final one came up."

Gambling thanks the Steinbach Arts Council for all of their help getting the whole exhibit ready.

Extravagant Possibilities will be displayed at the Steinbach Cultural Arts Centre Hall Gallery until August 15.
