Fairway Autobody along Lund Road in Steinbach is expanding. The company this week received approval from city council for a Variance to allow construction of an 11,250 square foot building immediately west of the existing building which is the same size.

Three-Way Builders is doing the project and asked for a Variance to place the building right up against Pioneer Road whereas the city's Zoning Bylaw requires a 10 foot setback. The city administration recommended against a zero setback and suggested five feet. Len Neufeld, owner of Three-Way Builders, told council he has consulted with Fairway Autobody and they can accept that.

"We do have the option to move that building further and to be connected to the other one. It just requires us to put a four hour fire-rated wall in there. They're willing to do that so we can live with a five foot setback."

Deputy Mayor John Fehr then moved approval.

"It's always good to see businesses expand. It's a good sign. I don't think this is going to affect the neighbours in any way there so I think it's a good fit for that area."

City council was unanimous in approving the Variance.
