The Member of Parliament for Provencher calls it a bit of a surprise. Ted Falk is referring to the new committee appointment he has been assigned to for the current Session of Parliament.

"The leadership of our party has appointed me to the Justice Committee. I was actually somewhat surprised. It isn't an area where I've had experience before but I feel really honoured that they feel I'll be a contributing member of that committee. They've indicated to me that, pending the first meeting and the election (of committee leaders) that I can expect to be vice-chair of that committee."

Falk says this is quite an honour for him and is really looking forward to the work.

"It's a ten-member committee and I think I'm one of only two of the ten that isn't a lawyer. I was a little surprised. The chair of the committee, who is Liberal Anthony Housefather, and I had a brief meeting this past week and he was very excited that there would be a non-lawyer on the committee. He says, in fact, I might bring some common sense to the committee. He was looking forward to that perspective."

Falk previously served on the Public Accounts Committee and on the Public Safety Committee regarding national security issues.
