Provencher MP Ted Falk says he looks forward to a less divisive House of Commons when a new Session of Parliament begins Tuesday. He notes the new Liberal government has clearly indicated that it will take a more inclusive approach to running the country.

"I'm actually very hopeful that we're going to have a very cordial environment in the House of Commons and in Parliament in this coming session. The Prime Minister has indicated that's the direction that he would like to see Parliament take, that all members' views can be heard and respected regardless of party affiliation. I think that's an important step. All Members of Parliament are elected to represent our constituency. We all have a voice and it's going to be heard and I'm very excited that the Prime Minister has shown a willingness and an openness to that."

Falk adds, in the few short weeks since the election, the Liberal Government has already demonstrated this approach by relaxing deadlines to bring in Syrian refugees.

"I was especially pleased with the way that the Liberal Government has been working with the refugee file. To backtrack a little bit on the commitment they had made about the 25,000 refugees coming in, I'm very pleased about that. What I'm hearing from our constituents here is that they want the government to take whatever amount of time it needs to properly screen these refugees, to make sure the people who are coming here are indeed refugees."

Meanwhile, Falk says he looks forward to finding out what his responsibilities will be in terms of committee assignments and what new Conservative leader Rona Ambrose has in store for him.
