Provencher MP Ted Falk is disappointed that the Liberal Government has again refused to commit to a referendum on its plans to change the way we elect Members of Parliament. Falk says his constituents have overwhelming told him they would like a say on the matter through a referendum. But he says the Liberals are continuing to say no to the idea.

Ted Falk"They think that their cross-Canada town hall meetings are sufficient. As Conservatives, we think that if you're going to change the way that politicians should be elected, we think all Canadians should have a voice in that process and the only way to give all Canadians an opportunity to have a voice is to actually have a referendum."

He adds the Conservatives will continue to put pressure on the Liberals on this matter.

Meanwhile, Falk says it was a raucous first week back in Parliament after the summer break.

"It seems like everyone has hit the ground running here, whether it's holding the government to account on the entitlement practices that we see happening on the Liberal side of the House with the amount of money that the government has been spending or the issue of sending our defence forces to Africa on a United Nations mission. That's something we're trying to hold the government to account to as well and that they will give Parliament the opportunity to debate and vote on that issue."

Falk says if the first week is any indication, it will be a very lively autumn sitting of the House of Commons.
