Willie Peters sporting his old ice skates, sharing some of his memories with the crowd

Many interesting stories were shared Sunday as people said good-bye to the Randolph ice rink. The farewell was part of the Randolph-Chortitz homecoming. A crowd gathered at the old rink for a brief program where they heard Willie Peters talk about his memories at the rink, which was used a lot, every day. He says there was organized hockey teams, there was time for pleasure skating and a big smile spread across his face when he talked about the family nights. Peters says they had those events once a month where everyone would bring food and they would have a skating party all evening. In 1962, Peters was joined by Larry Kehler and A.D. Kehler to sit on the committee to build the Randolph rink, which was used until 2006. Peters believes they would have done a few things differently if they had known the rink was going to get so much use over so many years.
