Emergency Measures Minister Steve Ashton says support is coming from the Government for individuals who have been affected by this years flood. Ashton spoke to the media late last week and says plans are already in progress.

As of May 20th, the Disaster Financial Assistance program has received 237 private applications, and 84 municipal claims had been filed. Out of that 185 were currently being processed. MIT is advising property owners take pictures of damage, save receipts for any repairs, keep an inventory of anything lost or thrown out and contact their insurance company as well as contacting the disaster assistance numbers.

Ashton notes apart from individual compensation they plan to recover municipal and provincial roads, getting them back to full function as soon as possible. He adds they recognize the importance of rebuilding infrastructure, but points out flood mitigation will also need some attention.
