Former Town Councilor John Falk is running in the upcoming Niverville byelection with the goal of finishing the term he started two years ago.

Falk resigned from town council earlier this year to run in the provincial election. He says one of his main purposes in running provincially was to bring more attention to the community and the region by bringing the riding closer to being a swing riding. He notes he did not want to resign from council but felt running provincially was the right thing to do.

"I am excited for the opportunity to run again. When I originally ran it was for a four-year term and then this provincial thing came up, so in my opinion, I have two years left that I would really love to continue to be on council and hopefully make a difference for our community."

Falk says he plans to knock on as many doors and meet as many people as he can before election day on September 14th. He says Niverville has many challenges that relate to the rapid growth they have experienced over the last decade including things like infrastructure, policing, and school sizes. He adds another big challenge in Niverville is business growth.

"We have so much of a residential tax base here. We are starting to, but we really don't have the business that we would like to have as far as a split between residential and business. I think that is one of the key things is trying to grow that business base here, whether it is the expansion of already existing businesses or new businesses coming it."

Falk notes the rapid expansion means a large portion of Niverville's population did not grow up there and it is important to build strong partnerships between those that have lived in Niverville their entire lives and newcomers.

Falk says he has been on Niverville Town Council for seven years and he still has more to offer the community.

"I've done my best to serve this community, I'm passionate about what our community is saying. I am a big believer in listening to people and really working to create partnerships and trying to be a voice for the business community, for different organizations within our community and making a positive difference."
