Council for the RM of Hanover believes it is time the speed limit is increased along Provincial Roads 205 and 216 in the municipality.

Council has passed a resolution requesting PR 205 be increased from 90 kilometres per hour to 100 kilometres per hour, starting at Highway 12 west to Grunthal and then continuing from PR 216 west to Highway 59. And that the speed limit along PR 216 be increased from 90 kilometres per hour to 100 kilometres per hour from PR 311 north of New Bothwell all the way to Highway 59 near Rosa.

Reeve Stan Toews says these highways are in proper shape to handle the higher speeds.

"We believe if we drive along them we don't seem to notice any difference from the ones that have one hundred and the ones that have ninety," he says.

Council says both of these highways were constructed to the same standard and width as other Provincial Roads in Hanover and that each of these highways has similar types of traffic.

The municipality has sent a resolution to the Highway Traffic Board. Toews says it will probably be a number of weeks before the municipality hears back from the province.
