The City of Steinbach was hoping to re-open all lanes on Highway #12 north this Thursday. Head city engineer Phil Kalyta says the road work is complete and landscaping touch-ups are being finished this week. However, the re-opening has been delayed because Manitoba Infrastructure does not have the new traffic signals ready to go.

Glenn Cuthbertson, Director of Traffic Engineering for Manitoba Infrastructure, says they won't be ready until at least mid-November.

"We're probably looking at three weeks, plus or minus, depending upon weather conditions and what other unexpected events show up that need to be tended to."

Cuthbertson explains what's holding things up.

"Part of it is we can't get started until some other things are already underway and part of it is that we have a number of things going on and we're dividing resources among them. We are confident that in the next three week, sort of, time frame we'll be ready to go. We've got all the stuff we need and now it's just a matter of scheduling people in there and getting the work done."
