The Canadian chili cook off champion will again be crowned in Kleefeld in 2016.

Spokesperson Gord Meneer says the Kleefeld Honey Festival last year hosted the national championships and they have just signed on with the Canadian Food Championship Committee to host the nationals the next two years.

"It's going to be exciting because after our event last year we had a lot of people talking about it," says Meneer.

Registration for the August 6th event is expected to open February 19th.

"You don't have to go to anywhere else in the country to have a shot to go down to the worlds," explains Meneer. "You just come to Kleefeld, get your entry, sign up and be registered to bring your chili and compete in Kleefeld."

Meneer says past champions can compete this year in Kleefeld. And he anticipates both the national champion for 2015 and the world champion to be in Kleefeld this August. Last year, Wayne Shymko, who was runner-up in Kleefeld claimed top prize at the world's. The team of Darryl Mcgarey and Tyler Thurston won at nationals last year.

Meneer says the venue for Worlds has changed. Last year it was in Kissimmee, Florida, while this year it will happen in Orange Beach, Alabama.
