Owner of La Broquerie Lumber Rona says construction of their new building is coming along well. The new site is located along Highway 52 East just west of the La Broquerie Hotel.

Farrel Rempel says it has been in the works for about two years and finally had everything in order to see the plan come to fruition. Rempel adds the new building is going to be five times the size of the current 3,000 square feet building which will alllow for more product, better customer satisfaction and a lunch room for staff.

The new La Broquerie Lumber Rona site, trees were cleared to break ground and start construction."We'll have a lot more inventory," notes Rempel. "We won't be able to carry all the things that the box store does in Winnipeg but we'll have probably a good 75 to 90 percent of the stuff, and space to look around. Our store right now, there's just no room, it's jammed tight with everything. It will be a lot more user friendly for everybody, for the employees and the customers."

Rempel says he finds they service many surrounding communities including La Broquerie, Woodridge, Marchand, Ste. Anne, Steinbach, Grunthal and Mitchell. He notes people are coming in to see products found in the flyers but not being able to pick them up because they don't currently carry them adding that was a good incentive for them to continue working towards a larger building.

Rempel says their current building was originally built around 1930 and has been added onto over the years. He adds after they've moved into the new location, the old building will more than likely be torn down and turned into 55-plus ground level walk-in housing units.

He says he's hoping to move into the new building within the first two months of 2016 when business is slower, that way there is the least amount of customer inconvenience.
