The women's clothing store Maurice's will be opening a branch in the former Bluenotes location in the Clearspring Centre.

Amanda Matskiw is the Area Sales Leader for Manitoba. She says Maurice's is relatively new to Canada but has enjoyed success in smaller towns and cities.

“That is really what we cater to is small towns, small areas, and being the best home town specialty retailer in those areas. We also have age ranges really from about 20 years old and we get up to ladies that are 80 years old shopping with us too. There is something for everybody.”

Matskiw says Maurice's have locations in Brandon, Winnipeg, and Winkler. She notes Steinbach is really a natural next step.

“We really looked to see if our target customer is there, is she in the mall? We talked to her to see what's she not getting. 'Where do you shop? What do you need?' They were really telling us we need a place where we can get amazing plus clothes, we can get fashionable items for a really great price. Where I don't have to go to Winnipeg to shop, I just can stay in the community.”

Matskiw says Maurice's tries to get involved in th community. She notes they often like to connect with local charities, most commonly women's shelters.

“Something that we really love to do is we work with a local charity, whether it is a women's shelter or a place in need of Women's clothing. All of our lightly damaged items we actually donate to those charities each month, so if there is something that is missing a button or something that can be fixed the store manager is actually able to chose a charity to donate to.”

Matskiw says they are currently in the hiring process. She notes they will be renovating the former Bluenotes space near the malls back entrance, and the grand opening is set for April 29th.
