A spokesperson for MennoMart in Steinbach says they are not yet ready to begin accepting donations of used building materials, furniture and appliances. Bob Schinkel says there has been a very warm reception from the community since they announced the outlet last week. But he adds it will probably be about a month until they can start accepting donations.

"Firstly, we're looking for a manager and, once we get that, we expect that we'll start looking for product. Within the next month or so we hope to be able to start accepting donations."

Schinkel adds they aim to open the store in late March or early April. He says the strong response to the MennoMart announcement has the board feeling upbeat about being able to sustain a steady inventory.

"We're surely very hopeful. It's not totally established but because of the response that we've had from the community, we expect that we're going to have a good source of product."

MennoMart will be located in the former Esco building at 62 Life Sciences Parkway in Steinbach. All profits will be directed to local charities.
