Canadians will be celebrating the 149th birthday of our nation on Friday.

Dolly Doerksen, Executive Assistant for Steinbach Chamber of Commerce says July 1st will be a quiet day for retail in the city. Grocery stores and the mall will be closed in Steinbach all day. She notes you can expect restaurants, gas stations and convenience stores to be open.

Meanwhile, she says local golf courses will be open and the aquatic centre will have public swim sessions from 11am to 2pm and then again from 3pm to 6pm. The Jake Epp Library, on the other hand, will be closed.

If you're looking for an activity Friday, Doerksen says Mennonite Heritage Village will kick off their day at 10am and the soccer park will host fireworks beginning no earlier than 10:45pm.
