Steinbach MLA Kelvin Goertzen was given a tour of the Steinbach Credit Union by Natasha Vokey, a part time employee of SCU who is part of Eastman Employment Services.

Jayda Wiebe is a Job Coach Supervisor at Eastman Employment Services. Her job is to support Natasha Vokey and her job coach. She says Eastman Employment Services is a non-profit organization that is part of Envision Community Living.

“We offer support to people with disabilities to find employment in the community that is paid employment and is inclusive, so we provide different services. We provide resume writing, we provide one on one job coaching, which is part of the program that Natasha is under for SCU.”

Vokey says she has been working two days a week at the credit union for a year and a half.

“Wednesdays is the printers, filling up all of the printers, and Thursday I fill up all the coffee stations. I love the team work aspect, that is probably my strong point.”

Vokey notes she loves the people she works with, and is very glad that in the new building she doesn't have to work in the basement.

Wiebe says Vokey goes to work with a job coach every day, however they are planning to move that down to only one day a week because Natasha no longer needs a coach for both days. She notes bring your MLA to work day helps bring government exposure what they do at Eastman Employment Services, and was started in Winnipeg.

“It's an initiative to bring your MLA to work to provide some exposure to employing people with disabilities, and how important that it is both from the employer aspect as well as the employee aspect. It was part of DEAM in October which is Disability Employment Awareness Month.”

Wiebe says even though Disability Employment Awareness Month was actually in October, they were only able to schedule the tour in November.
