The Niverville dog park has been getting visitors from all over southern Manitoba.

Barry Piasta is the founder of the Niverville dog park. He says everyone that has been coming to the park has been very positive.

"Everything here seems to be positive. The people that I've met at the dog park are from all over. There are people from Winkler, Morden, East Selkirk, Winnipeg, Lorette, St. Pierre Jolys, Grunthal, so it is getting people from all over."

Piasta says he started working on the newly opened dog park last August and his goal was to have the project complete for this summer. He notes the new fully fenced in park is one of a kind in Manitoba.

"We set up a dog park with agility equipment. There are 12 stations to do things with your dog like jump, go through tunnels, and then we have nice bright colours so it is appealing to the eyes, we have little things like a bone bench just to get people interested too."

Piasta says they held a grand opening for the park on Saturday, July 23 complete with an adoption fair in the Niverville Arena. He notes there were various rescues there, Petsecure Pet Insurance, the Winnipeg Humane Society, and a barbecue lunch.

Piasta says hopefully the Niverville dog park will also benefit the rest of Niverville.

"It is not only for the animals, but it was to bring more people to Niverville too for the businesses as well in hopes that they would stop off for a meal, ice cream, Slurpee, gas, whatever it may be."

Piasta adds the park is free and can be enjoyed anytime.
