A group of 60 diverse and high achieving students, up from 44 last year, are graduating from Niverville Collegiate Institute Tuesday.

School counselor Deanna Wiebe says, though diverse, this class has been a cohesive and unified group of students. Wiebe adds this is also the first class in many years where most of the students are attending post-secondary education right after high school.

The valedictorian is Kaisha Korchinski, a student whom Wiebe says is high achieving and was involved in the yearbook production. Korchinski says she was shocked and excited to be given the honour of representing her class and mirrors the statement of the graduating class being a diverse group of students.

"We're all very different but somehow we connect in a similar way. I don't know if it's because we're all the same age, but we have very, very diverse groups of people and everybody still seems to manage to fit in and have good friendships between groups. It's not your typical high school cliques here."

Korchinski will be attending the University of Manitoba with the hopes of teaching high school education. She says she encourages her classmates to keep pushing and making the best of every situation life throws at them because there's a lot to look forward to.

Graduation will happen at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Fourth Avenue Bible Church in Niverville.
