The paving of Old Tom Road in Steinbach has been set back a couple of weeks. Work was supposed to begin next Monday. Phil Kalyta, head engineer for the city, says the contractor asked for a delay.

"The contractor, with some of the weather, he's been delayed on some other projects he's got going on around the province. He figured he'd rather delay the start and move in with all his crews so he can get an efficient project done rather than moving in with partial crews and perhaps delaying the project. So he asked for a delay and it kind of made sense. So that's slated to start on the 18th of July."

Meanwhile, in the Meadows neighbourhood, Kalyta says repairs to curbs and re-paving are scheduled to be completed by the end of this week.

"They were supposed to clean up all their concrete work last week. The asphalt milling crew was in and the asphalt paving is supposed to start this week. If all goes well, by Canada Day the Meadows will be black (have new pavement) and there will be just a little landscaping to clean up in there."

And, he says the reconstruction of Barkman Avenue from Main to Henry Streets remains on schedule with completion expected at the end of August.

"Most of the sewer and water work should be completed this week. There's a little bit of storm sewer work the following week and then they'll do a little bit of testing on those services, make sure the sewer and water is good. Once the testing is done, then they'll start with the road work. That project is basically right on schedule for end of August completion."

Work continues on Barkman Avenue.
