A concerned resident along Old Tom Road in Steinbach has asked city council to do something to slow down traffic. In a letter Charlene Ramkissoon suggests the speed limit be reduced and that the corner of Old Tom and Park Road be made into a four-way stop. Mayor Chris Goertzen says council is aware that this situation could get worse after Old Tom is paved this summer.

"We anticipate that, with the pavement, it might increase the speeds of a few individuals and so, first of all, we want to ask the RCMP to have strong enforcement at certain times along that road when that does get paved. But we've also had administration look at the idea of a four-way stop or some other mechanism to control traffic, make sure it's as safe as it possibly can be."

Steinbach Chief Administrative Officer Troy Warkentin says city staff did a traffic study there last fall in anticipation of this issue.

"At this point there is not a confirmed recommendation or analysis completed however we do expect that will be completed sometime during the summer. If there are recommendations for any traffic control devices or signage or that kind of thing, that recommendation would be brought before council sometime late summer or early fall."

The Old Tom Road paving project will start July 4th with completion in mid-August
