Steinbach city councillor Susan Penner will raise the issue regarding phase one of the planned multiplex at council's next meeting October 20th. Three weeks ago, Penner suggested council scrap its plan to build a performing arts centre and instead find a larger space for the cultural arts centre and consider an indoor soccer facility. Tuesday night, Penner presented a Notice of Motion to place the matter on the agenda of the next meeting. If she gets a seconder at that meeting, council will discuss her motion. Penner feels there needs to be more public input into the decision.

"What I'm proposing is that, before we move ahead, that we have a formal public consultation process so we can get feedback from our residents and also from our local business community to hear what their ideas are

Susan Pennerabout recreation and culture in our community and what they would like to see."

Penner would require a majority vote of council to re-open the arts centre decision, something that does not appear likely at this time as other councillors say they are standing by their decision in July which followed two years of public consultation. Penner says she is continuing to get public support for her position.

"I continue to get feedback from people who are very supportive, who would like to be more included in the process, to know more of what's happening, how the decisions have been made and also give their opinions and suggestions of what they'd like to see."
