A change in recycling has been announced for the communities of St.Adolphe, Ile des Chenes and Ste.Agathe. The Rural Municipality of Ritchot held an open house this week to discuss those changes with residents.

Christie de Rocquigny, Assistant Chief Administrative Officer for Ritchot says residents of these communities will be receiving 64 gallon carts which will hold recyclables that are then wheeled to

the end of the driveway on recycle day.

According to de Rocquigny, Ritchot switched service providers this year. With Emterra being the new recycling contractor, she says they came up with this new system which the municipality thought would work well.

Approximately 1100 of these carts have been ordered, with an expected delivery this week. de Rocquigny says by next week everybody should have their cart. For now, this will be for urban residences only. de Rocquigny says logistically it just doesn't make sense to ask rural residents to wheel these carts down long driveways on recycle days. Besides, she says they will often throw the recycling container or bags in their trunk and then drive it to the road. de Rocquigny says attempting that with a cart would be more difficult.

"That's why we thought we'd try it in the urban areas first and then see how it goes," she says.

de Rocquigny says she's not sure how this change will impact rates passed down to homeowners. She's also not sure at this point whether the collectors will pick up anything other than what's in the carts.

Approximately 22 people attended this week's open house. de Rocquigny says they were there largely to ask questions.
