Steinbach Mayor Chris Goertzen says he has been hearing concerns surrounding safety along Old Tom Road and Park Road.

The city paved stretches of those roads this summer and Goertzen notes he has been hearing from residents who feel the Old Tom/ Park roads intersection could pose safety concerns. The matter came up again Friday morning at the Mayor's Open Door.

"We're going to continue to monitor that whether there needs to be a four way stop, whether there needs to be some lighting and we'll go from there," he says. "That has come up a few times."

Meanwhile, another resident came by to ask which street improvements are on the list for 2017.

Goertzen says the preliminary list includes Wilson Street, Fourth Street, Sunrise Bay and Chrysler Gate. But he cautions, this is only a preliminary list and it remains to be seen what Council decides and what next year's budget might look like.

He notes the City typically spends between $500,000 and $600,000 per year on such street improvements, though due to some shortfalls in 2016, they will increase that slightly for 2017. Goertzen says City staff look very closely at the level of deterioration happening throughout Steinbach and then strategically decide which streets are most in need of improvements.
