The Hanover School Division voted in their Board Chair and Vice-Chair for the coming school year Tuesday night.

Ron Falk was re-elected as Board Chair and says it's exciting to be a part of the leadership again, noting this last year has gone well. For the vote Cyndy Friesen, Shannon Friesen, Sue Doerksen, Rick Peters, Brad Unger and Lynn Barkman chose to remove their names from the Board Chair ballot leaving Ruby Wiens, Sarah Dyck and Ron Falk.

"It was a steep learning curve for the new trustees," notes Falk when talking about how the previous year has gone. "They've come along really nicely, asking good questions. Of course everybody's on committees and that's where you really start digging into the nuts and bolts of how the operations work."

Falk adds he feels education is vitally important and is excited to continue seeing the amazing things taking place in the schools.

Meanwhile the Vice-Chair vote had suspense and excitement as it took four ballots before a final name was announced. For the initial vote Brad Unger, Cyndy Friesen, Sue Doerksen and Shannon Friesen chose to remove their names from the Vice-Chair ballot, Ron Falk was automatically removed as having been voted in as Board Chair. This left Lynn Barkman, Ruby Wiens, Rick Peters and Sarah Dyck on the ballot for Vice-Chair.

For the second ballot the lowest voted trustee was taken off the ballot leaving Lynn Barkman, Ruby Wiens and Rick Peters. That vote resulted in a three-way tie. For the third ballot each trustee was asked to vote for their two top choices. The results removed the lowest voted trustee leaving the final vote between Lynn Barkman and Rick Peters. The fourth ballot named Rick Peters as the 2015-2016 school year Vice-Chair.

"By the last round I felt I had the support of everyone around me," notes Peters adding he feels honoured to have been named Vice-Chair. "I'm looking forward to the next year, working together with Ron and serving the students of our division."

Peters adds he has four children who went through the division and loves not only giving back to the community but also being involved and knowing what's being taught to the students.
