Scorpions Elite Cheer, based in Steinbach will be celebrating Halloween a few days early this year.

Director Andrew Recksiedler says they are planning something for Saturday afternoon outside their gym, called Trunk or Treat. Recksiedler says parents will decorate their cars, park them outside the gym and then hand out candy on Saturday. He is hoping for 40 cars.

"The idea being that you can get as much trick or treating done in a parking lot as you would be walking around town," notes Recksiedler.

Trunk or Treat runs from 4pm to 6pm at their location on Bushfarm Road. Then from 6pm to 8pm, families are invited inside the gym for a Halloween party with games, a costume contest and cheer demonstrations. The cost to enter the gym is $5 per person, with proceeds helping with travel costs.

According to Recksiedler, their older teams travel at least once per year. In 2017, the senior team has a trip planned to Minneapolis in January and if they win that, they head to the Worlds in Florida in April. Recksiedler says the Minneapolis trip will cost each participant about $500, while the trip to Florida is about three times that amount.

Recksiedler says he hasn't set a goal for how much money he hopes to raise on the weekend and says his goal really is to have people come see the gym and what the program is all about.

"It's kind of the best of all worlds," he says. "We get fun for the kids, we get fundraising for the team travel and then also get new people who have never seen it with the opportunity to see it."

He says they will also be collecting non-perishable food donations Saturday for South East Helping Hands.

Recksiedler says he encourages everyone to come check them out on Saturday, even if you have never experienced cheerleading before. On Saturday they hope to sign up participants for upcoming cheer camps.
