Student enrollment numbers have seen an increase at Steinbach Christian School.

Last year there were 273 enroled at the beginning of the year and Principal Emery Plett says this year the number totaled 293 students, an increase of 20. Plett adds they were not surprised by the increase because of the smaller graduating class in June. He says they also have international students this year from Korea and Hong Kong.

"Steinbach Christian has had a history of having international students through the years," explains Plett. "I believe that started back in the 1970's, so we've had some students almost every single year. They then go through our program, work through their english credits and have the opportunity to enter into university [in Canada] because they graduated from a high school here in Canada."

Plett says, as an independent school, they are not required to follow the 20 K3 provincial initiative but have decided to live in the reality that it creates a better learning environment for students.
