The Executive Director for Steinbach Chamber of Commerce says there could be a fair bit of business activity on holiday Monday.

Linda Peters explains Monday is a Civic Holiday, not a Statutory or General Holiday and so businesses can be open if they choose. And while Peters says many will probably remain closed in order to give their staff a day off, some stores will decide to be open.

"The larger ones, will likely choose to be open," says Peters. "But I suspect a lot of the smaller stores will decide to stay closed again just because of staffing concerns."

Peters says you can pretty much expect anything that's open on a Sunday, such as gas stations and restaurants will also be open holiday Monday. And then add to that some of the larger stores in Steinbach. However, Clearspring Centre will be closed all day.

As far as things to do with the family, Peters says it's a big festival weekend at Mennonite Heritage Village with their annual Pioneer Days. Meanwhile, the Steinbach Aquatic Centre will be open for public swim on Monday and golf courses will also be open. The Jake Epp Library however, will be closed.
