The St. Pierre Fire Department was called to a grass fire on Highway 52 one mile east of Highway 59 at around 10:15 pm Friday evening.

St. Pierre Deputy Fire Chief Chris Harvey says the small grass fire was in the ditch and was contained quickly. “We got our pump out, a little bit of water and the blower backs and that was about it.”

Harvey says the cause of the fire is unknown. He adds it is quite dry this time of year so the fire may have been started by a cigarette butt or a farmer burning his fields.
