The City of Steinbach is inviting residents to sign up to be part of the city's Canada 150 Mosaic project. Spokesperson Heather Chambers Ewen says they need 600 people to paint a tile that will become part of a large mural.

"We will take absolutely anyone who has an interest in being part of the community mural, whether they're artistic or not or consider themselves an artist or not. These are just small 4 inch-by-4 inch tiles so it's not a huge canvas that they're working with. We're happy to take anyone of all ages to come out and paint a tile. You can put whatever image, there are no limits on what you're allowed to put on there. It's just anything that you want to put down as a resident of Steinbach, whether it's an image that you think about when you think about Steinbach or just want to put your experiences of Steinbach, whatever you want to paint, you're welcome to do so."

You can register on the city's website. Painting workshops will take place November 2nd and 3rd. Chambers Ewen says there will be one hour sessions throughout both days so it's not a huge time commitment. She adds the 12 foot by 8-foot mosaic mural will be assembled as the tiles are completed so it can be unveiled that week.

"It's going to be a pretty quick timeline. We're going to be painting on Wednesday and Thursday and then, on Friday afternoon (November 3rd), we're planning a bit of an unveiling. It's actually going to coincide with our grand opening for our community plaza in front of the T.G. Smith Centre."
