The by-election in the Rural Municipality of La Broquerie took place Wednesday night. The winning candidate, Laurent Tetrault won with 424 votes, 206 more than his opponent Eric Wiens.

It was an emotional night and Tetrault says he's very excited but knows he now has a great responsibility to the municipality. Tetrault adds he's prepared to work with the present council and administration to build a better community.

"There's big projects," notes Tetrault when asked what he would like to see completed. "There's the lagoon to be completed, there's municipal roads that have to be upgraded and there's the arena parking lot which I think should be paved. In a growing municipality there's always new projects because building a country never ends. You have to work at it every day and it's much better to build in harmony and that's what I intend to do with the present council."

Tetrault adds winning the by-election was very important to him.

"I have lived here all my life and worked for the municipality for 32 years so I have had the opportunity to work with visionaries and people that worked hard to build this wonderful municipality. I think it has to be continued and that's my objective."

The next RM of La Broquerie Council meeting takes place September 9 at 8 a.m.
