A three-year-old girl was reunited with her parents after she wandered off by herself early Saturday morning in the Town of Ste. Anne.

Ste. Anne Police Chief Marc Robichaud.

Ste. Anne Police Chief Marc Robichaud says several calls were made to police in regards to the little girl. “Two gentlemen found her and were knocking door to door, and one lady volunteered to keep her until police arrived.”

Robichaud says when returning the girl to her home, they were amazed at how the girl could actually unlock the door, and unlock the deadbolt. He adds the parents were asleep when the young girl ventured out on her own.

“The parents weren't aware the girl was missing until we attended with the child that morning. Fortunately, nobody was hurt, and certainly this situation could have been tragic.”

Robichaud says there was no negligence on the parents part, and would like to thank the concerned citizens that were out trying to find the parents and where the child lived. “We really appreciate the support of the community, it's so nice to see a caring community looking out for a little child like this.”

Robichaud adds, young children are often smarter than we think they are, and would like to parents to make sure doors are secured in a way that a child isn't able to get out on their own.
