Eleven year old Andrew drops off a gift for Community Christmas

Community Christmas' Toys Days wraps Thursday evening in Steinbach. AM 1250 and Mix 96.7 FM are broadcasting live all day from Canadian Tire and Superstore.

The initiative is to collect as many toys as possible for less fortunate children in the southeast that might not find a gift under their tree otherwise. A spokesperson for Community Christmas says they will be handing out approximately nine hundred hampers to families and these hampers include toys for children. As the result of a very successful Toys Days in 2012, the committee did not purchase a single toy.

"I've been a teacher for many years and I know at Christmas time how excited the kids are about toys," says Liz Hayes who volunteers at the Grunthal Food Bank. "It can be the smallest thing and they treasure it. Kids love toys. They feel loved when they get a toy."

Toys Days runs until 9pm Thursday.
