Manitoba Sustainable Development released a statement on Saturday which advises a voluntary evacuation is underway in some areas of the Whiteshell due to high water causing deteriorating roads.

Officials are contacting cottage owners and recommending evacuation in Block five, Caddy Lake and cottage owners east of Block nine on Provincial Road 312. The statement also notes there is no vehicle access south of the ambulance garage on South Shore Road in Falcon Lake, and the road to Florence and Nora Lakes is also washed out.

We are getting reports from cottagers that over five inches of rain fell on Saturday morning at Caddy Lake and there are road washouts on Highway 44. Hydro has been out since early morning and there are reports that it could be out for two or three more days.

One cottager says the underpass leaving Falcon Lake Town is completely full of water. It is also reported that Faloma Road has water rushing over it and there are lots of roads washed out, including small spots on Highway 1.

Residents and Cottage Owners in affected areas can call 1-204-349-2201 for information between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Sunday.
